Frédéricka Petit-Homme

Montreal-born soprano, Frédéricka Petit-Homme is described as “the embodiment of artistic citizenship.”

Her portfolio includes solo and choral performances with Ensemble Nigra Sum, Ensemble ArtChoral, Ensemble Caprice, OSM, Musique 3 Femmes, and Obiora.

Frédéricka’s academic lecturer activities began in 2005 at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music. Her 20 years of experience with community choirs led her to pursue a PhD in Music Education. She is currently exploring the ways community resilience, cultural production, and leadership play a role in gospel music participation. This focus enabled her to build bridges between the Schulich School of Music and the wider Montreal community. In 2022, she founded ENSEMBLE Nigra Sum, a professional choir that celebrates Afro-centric music and centers community engagement and for the past two years, This past two seasons, Frédéricka led the gospel music workshop: More than a Song.

Ms. Petit-Homme is the recipient of several grants and scholarships, including the Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship Doctoral Award, the McGill Scarlet Key, and the Schulich School of Music Community Engagement Fund.

ENSEMBLE Nigra Sum

ENSEMBLE Nigra Sum is a professional choir that centers Afrocentric choral music and mobilizes diverse communities to experience gospel music participation. Its 2022-2023 season included concerts with l’Orchestre symphonique of Drummondville, the Montreal Baroque Festival, the American Studies’ Association, and Ensemble ArtChoral.

ENSEMBLE Nigra Sum is thrilled to partner with Ensemble Caprice et Ensemble ArtChoral the Festival de la Voix 2024.
